Q) How do I find a specific word in the word list or in the collection?
A) There are essentially three ways to do this, the quick search, the move-to function, and the collection search. - a. the quick search - you can search for words that are listed on the page by using the web browser search function. In Internet Explorer this is initiated by pressing Ctrl-F. Remember that this only searches words listed on the page you are viewing and your collection may have several pages of words or records. When the analysis has more than one page, the page browsing arrows appear at the top of the table. Once you have found the word, you can then click on it and see a list of all papers that also use that word.
- b. the Move-To function - you can search the entire word list by using the "Move-To" Tool. This is found under the "Tool" menu heading and once activated appears at the top of the table. In the first box, select "Word" as the type of criteria to find and then in the second box, enter the word you want to find. The program then orders the collection of words alphabetically and takes the user to the closest word matching your search. Note: one must be on the Word analysis page to use the Move-To function in this way.
- c. the collection search - another way to find words in the collection is to use the record search function. From any page in the collection, go to the Tools menu and choose search. Here you can enter one word (or a word fragment plus wild card) and search the entire collection for that word in the title of the article (or source). The search results appear as a list of records that contain that word. If you want to find all papers that have a combination of words, conduct a second search on the search results by using the "search within results" button.
!! A note regarding the words - HistCite considers closely related words with different spellings as separate and different words. Therefore "rat" and "rats" are considered separate words. !!
