It is inappropriate to use the term “cover” when discussing HistCite. HistCite does not cover anything in that it is not a database. To use HistCite, you must first search another database. You then process the output of that search through HistCite so it can provide analyses and visualization of those results. Currently, the only database that is compatible with HistCite is Thomson Scientific’s Web of Science (WOS). The WOS database covers the social sciences and the arts and humanities as well as the sciences. No matter what the nature of your search on WOS, HistCite will handle it. Thus, you can use HistCite to analyze WOS search results on a topic in the social sciences or the arts and humanities.
