By default, historiographs are constructed from papers that are highly cited (by LCS or GCS). However, it is also possible to graph papers according to alternate criteria. For example, you may be interested in seeing a map of all the papers with the word "index" in the title, or all the papers in your collection by a certain author, or associated with a certain institution or country, etc.

To do this you must first collect the papers into a marked list. The Mark & Tag tool is very sophisticated. Review the instructions for use in the Help files.

Once the specific set of papers is collected into a marked list, go to the graphmaker to map them. In the upper left-hand corner, uncheck the "limit" criteria and check the "marks" criteria. Instead of graphing by the GCS or LCS limit, graphmaker will construct a map of the papers you collected into the marked list.

Beware: if your marked list is large (greater than 40 papers), the resulting map may be difficult to view due to the amount of information and available space. Extremely large maps (more than 100 papers) can take much longer to process. If your map is large, it sometimes helps to print it out across several pieces of paper and then assemble it manually.
