On Sunday, Feb 3, a new version of the Web of Knowledge (and Web of Science) will be released and replace the current WoK v3.

Along with changes to the user interface there are some subtle changes to the format of the downloaded data.

1) Some cited references with article numbers now display the article number as "ARTN #####". This is different from Wok v3 and this relatively small number of cited references is not correctly processed by the current version of HistCite. The next release of HistCite will correctly manage this new format.

2) cited references to articles that are posted online may now contain DOI numbers. The presence of these numbers should not interfere with the ability of HistCite to make connections between references and source articles, however, you may see random DOI numbers floating around the cited reference lists. The current version of HistCite does not properly recognize DOI numbers. We will be issuing a new version to deal with this, but until then, you should ignore the DOI numbers. It is not a bug and will not adversely affect the analysis.

If you are having trouble using WoK v4 with HistCite, feel free to post any concerns or questions you have. As Thomson ISI fine tunes the new release, new problems may pop-up and adjustments in HistCite will naturally follow.

Thanks,
Soren
